Windows 7 /  Network adapter resets on reboot, and fails to find internet connection.
Running Win 7 32bit nvidia nforce network adapter on my asus board, though i tried using my Realtek NIC and received the same problem. Okay, on to the problem. Every time I reboot the system, my network adapter fails to grab the internet. Not only that it creates two separate networks, a Home Network, and Public Network on the same adapter. I recently purchased a Asus RT N2 wireless router, hooking up the router is when the problem began. The boxed firmware I managed to find out was garbage, so I flashed it and installed DD WRT. Which did make some things easier but still didn't fix this problem. The PC that's having issues is hard wired to the Router, the Wireless PC running XPSP3 doesn't seem to be displaying the same problems. It finds the internet and network just fine on restart. I have been able to successfully fix the issue at least temporarily by simply disabling the network adapter and re enabling it. The Public network than vanishes, the Home Network resets and i have internet with no problems until I restart the pc. The things I have tried so far: Flashed the Firmware with DD-WRT Disabled the secondary PCI NIC Reinstalled both NIC's Drivers and tried each independently after a fresh install. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Hi, To troubleshoot the issue, please try the following steps. 1. If the computers are connecting to a router, please ensure the router’s firmware is up-to-date. 2. Please run the following command in an elevated command prompt in Windows 7: netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled 3. Disable SNP in Windows 7 by setting Registry as following: Note: Please perform a full-system backup first. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] EnableTCPChimney=dword:00000000 EnableTCPA=dword:00000000 EnableRSS=dword:00000000 If the keys do not exist, please create them and assign the value. An update to turn off default SNP features is available for Windows Server 2003-based and Small Business Server 2003-based computers Hope this helps. Thanks, Novak

Running Windows 7 64bit I have had the exact same issue on both an MSI NVIDIA NIC and GIGABYTE REALTEK NIC based systems in two separate locations (home & work). Thus I've ruled out the suggestion of it being a router firmware issue. I'm really glad you brought this issue to light as it drives me bonkers. What I found is that if I go into Computer Management and Advanced properties for the onboard NICS and "touch" a setting (I usually toggle flow control) this seems to reset the NIC and it then gets out on the Internet. LAN connectivity is always OK; only Internet connectivity is compromised when this situation is acting up. I entered the Registry tweak suggested by Novak Wu and upon reboot had the same exact issue of not being able to access my Internet connection.

I have this problem and am stuck because I'm a standard user and any changes to networking prompt me for administrator password. Any suggestions for either a permanent fix or for one that doesn't require an administrator password?
